Broken System by Jennifer Dunlap

You are not broken, the system is

The system built you to be afraid of change

afraid of different

The system tells you that you have more

when they have less

You may not have EVERYTHING

but at least you have more than them

If they got more

then what do you have?

How do you know that you're better than them?

They want to be like their other place, different

why can't they just assimilate?

You don't have to learn their way

when they give in and do it your way

The system told you how to be

boys be boys. girls be girls.

It all makes sense when it stays the same

The system made it hard for you

when it was your turn

it should be hard for them too

We didn't used to have these new ideas

these ideas are made up by them

why do we need them now?

No, No, No. No more new ideas

Keep it like it is. I understand it.

If it's easier for them than it was for you

then that's not fair

it's always been like this

it worked for you when it was like this.

You think they want it handed to them

You know.
They think they should make what you make

They think they should have what you have

that's not fair

If they had what you have

what would you have?

Now, you'd just have what they have

You're not special now

everything isn't built for you now

You're like them

them

Them that doesn't work as hard

or deserve what you have

You worked for this

it was hard for you

it should keep being hard for them

So one day your son will have what you have

them out there

them out there won't have what your son has

you believe your son is better than their son

their son will learn your way of doing

not the other way around

The system built it this way

the system favors you

you don't want to lose that

The system wants you afraid of them

Different is wrong to you

The system wants you afraid of them below you

having what you have

rather than the system above you

holding onto opportunity for prosperity
